ROGER DAVIES: WELCOME TO CALDERDALE
A major exhibition of paintings
WELCOME TO CALDERDATE:
A Celebration of the Borough’ was hosted by the Smith Art Gallery in Brighouse from December 21st 2024 until June 28th 2025.
The exhibition featured twenty-nine paintings and was my first solo show in a council-run, public art gallery.
I’d been working since 2017, making paintings which celebrated aspects of my locality. This exhibition gave me an opportunity to develop my ideas and challenged me to work on a larger scale than I usually do. Most of the paintings in the exhibition were made in fourteen months; creating the work was a major commitment which pushed me to the limits of my capabilities.
I’ll always remember this show as a wonderful, rewarding experience for which I’m grateful to Calderdale Museums and the exhibition sponsors: AC Art & Framing, Simprint and Calder Art Supplies.
I hosted art workshops and other events in the gallery throughout the exhibition, and it was fantastic to see adults and children coming along to take part.
Some of the original paintings are still available so please get in touch if you’d like to make any enquiries.
Signed prints of every painting are also available.
Thank you.
